• 240Z: The big “Barn Find” parts lot

Disclaimer: Nothing in this post is for sale – Do not ask me, thanks! What qualifies something as a “barn find” has been discussed previously. But nevertheless, i found these parts covered in dust in an old shed. They were not exactly “forgotten about”, but stored there in many years. The story behind them unfortunately includes a bit of human tragedy. After many years, i was the lucky one to buy the whole lot. Well sort of. Since i’m not exactly a hoarder and did not want to have many more parts of those i already own, i made an agreement with a Friend who basically bought the whole lot…

  • 240Z: Hoarding issues – Documents and Automobilia Lots

Lately i’ve been purchasing a lot of stuff for the project and related documents and automobilia. Just when i got additionally offered a complete lot of documents from a big collector. Due to covid related delays, the different orders from several weeks and months ended up arriving at my place all within a few days…  If you look at the picture below, quite a lot of stuff! Some things just came with the lots, and i will not keep them, even if nice stuff though. Nevertheless, here’s what was in my mail yesterday. In the next part of the story, i will show you a huge pile (two cars and…

  • 240Z: NOS L-series Cam Shaft arrived

Yesterday the post officer brought a nice little package to my door: It contains a brand new (NOS) L6 Camshaft for the E88 Head. It is used widely in many L-series cars from what i understoud, but i still have to research all the details. It was for sale not far away and the price was ok, so i thought myself i better secure it… I love the beautiful wrapping with the Nissan wrapping paper, etc… It came with a (separetely sold) Set of Cam oiler blockoff plates and bolts for older externally oiled cams. I still have to check if i need those… It also came with a “Cam…

  • 240Z: More documents arrived (Introduction Bulletins)

Documents… Again… Well yeah – i think i have an addiction 🙂 After months of searching them, i finally found a set of S30 Chassis “introduction” Bulletins. They contain some nice information about changes made over the years and the various market versions and options. The “modification” Manuals are very similar and tell about the different modifications made and possible to the different years of cars: Then i got an 1979 Datsun (Suisse) SA Pricelist along with a catalog, from (i believe) the same year. This means i have now at least a set from the late 70ies And one more pricelist in my collection the Swiss 260Z / 2+2…

  • EK9: General Check

In a few weeks i have to bring the EK9 for the bi-annual check at the local government checkpoint (aka Shaken / MOT), so i decided to better have a look if everything is correct. Aside from the usual wear and tear (which is just a sign it still gets used as it was built to do) Everything seemed pretty good… what looks like rust on the exhaust is mostly dirt that got baked-in due to the heat. I have a little project to clean the seat belt retractor and upper buckles, since the seat belts do not retract nicely with the usual tension anymore (but they still work ok),…

  • 240Z: Hollow parts sealing Schematic

Thanks to Daniel, i got this Schematic of a (now defunct) company that makes hollow area sealing (Dinitrol), which is now not used anymore, i guess. Nevertheless, they also made a schematic on how to apply it on the 240Z, and i thought i share this information with you, since it’s rare and interesting. I definitely recommend to do t his type of work on your chassis, if you want to prevent inside rusting in hollow areas like the frame rails or air channels. If you open this areas anyway for welding or replacement, it makes even more sense to protect these areas before closing it again. But i recommend…

  • 240Z: Anniversary Badges, Stickers, Jo-Jo and chassis cleaned out

Today i got some cool parts from my Man Stev, in exchange for a few documents: First of all a Datsun Jo-jo, which i haven’t seen yet and must have been some advertising item back in the days: Then those 50th Annversary Badges in blue and red. I know there is a black vesrion too and a special one for the 300ZX 50th anniversary edition, but these ones ar e different and i’m not sure if they’re made for a specific car model, or just a geunine nissan item for any car? Anyhow i really like them, complete with original packing, mounting materials and installation instructions: Then got the yellow…

  • GARAGE: Version 1.5: New shelves and other stuff in

Soooo, time for an Update on the Garage.  I’m working on Garage version 1.5. Not because i really planned to do so, but because of lucky circumstances i got hands on some neat stuff which now needs installation and relocation of a few things. Aside from the big neon sign which needs a bit of extra-wiring to have it actuated with the light-switch, my company was parting out again. I missed the big auction where they sold off the complete assembly line stuff for cheap, but at the end it was luck, because it probably saved me a lot of money 😀 but even better so, the parts they didn’t…
