I’ve been doing a lot of sand / glass-bead blasting recently. Mainly to get the 240Z parts ready for plating, painting, etc. But I had two major issues. 1. The cheap sandblasting cabinet which I bought long ago never had a dust-suction removed and the Lighting (old FL-tube type) was shit. 2: The compressor was way to small. Means it had to be running constantly (noisy) and secondly, it couldn’t keep the air-demand up, so the pressure always fell too low for proper blasting and I had to wait for the pressure to build up again. 240Z: Parts cleanup / degreasing / rust-removal how-to:
Sorry for the lack of updates, but I have been experimenting thoroughly with varous methods to remove dirt, grease, paint, primer, bondo and especially rust from all my parts, in preparation to get them repainted or plated with fresh zinc. Especially for that, you waant to have a nice and smooth surface, to get the OEM look. I tried electrolytic rust removal, various acids and bases, petrol based fuels, paint stripper, etc, and used a variety of tools, like the ultrasonic cleaner, parts cleaner, rotary tumbler, etc… Here is what I figured out works best for me: 1.
