• 240Z: Recreating an iconic Fairlady Z Press Photo in Tokyo

At the recent S30.world Japan tour Car meet, Our man Endo-san brought a nice old Nissan advertising canvas printed photo of an Automatic transmission Fairlady Z, which was meant to be hung in Nissan Dealerships showroom back in time. We liked the photo a lot, and some of the team were able to figure out the original location in Tokyo, where the photo was taken. A rather spontaneous idea grew quickly and a few days later we found ourselves in that exact spot, where the original photo was taken with the aim to recreate that photo with Kats Z432. The problem was, unfortunately, that we didn’t have any shooting permission.…

  • KNOWLEDGE: All about the 240Z / S30 Automatic Transmission 3N71A / 3N71B

The Nissan Automatic transmissions from the Datsun 240Z / Nissan S30 Z cars are probably not the most poplar topic. Despite the high volume of S30 Z’s sold globally, the automatic transmission option was always a niche variant with not many buyers going for it. Recently, however, I get more and more questions regarding Automatic transmissions. In October 2020, I released the original 240Z transmission knowledge post, which mainly focussed on the manual transmissions, but also included some automatic transmission sections. Since then, I have collected loads of new information and documents, and I have therefore decided to split the automatic transmission topic into a separate post for easier readability…

  • 240Z: Documents load from Japan

Yesterday, the postman delivered a big package from Japan again. This time with a load of cool documents. The first one (Bottom right) is the Race and Rally preparation manual. I bought this one for a friend, since I already own one. But it’s always cool to see those. The second one is a combined S30S(A) / GS30S(A) brochure for the standard Fairlady Z / Z-L and the 2by2 versions. See also Color samples at the bottom right: For whatever reason, one of the Japanese lots included a US-Market 240Z Brochure. Not something I would usually buy, but since I didn’t have it in printed form yet it’s cool to…

  • 240Z: Various stuff arrived, again

I’ve been traveling a lot recently, and been dealing with life, but I still managed to collect some cool stuff: I got hands on this cool vintage NISMO enamel sign from Japan: And this cool Poster, which shows a works GTS-II race car. The seller says he got it from a racing shop called Iwashita racing in Shizuoka, many years ago. According to Alan, it shows SCCN works car from the first round of 1972 Fuji Grand champion series on the 20th of March, with driver Kazuyoshi Hoshino. I also found this Dutch 1971 Datsun Advertising magazine. Usually I don’t collect documents from other countries (there’s just too many), but…

  • EVENT: S30.world Japan tour pt. 6 – Car spotting & Goodbye

Day 8: Car spotting & GoodbyeWhile some extended their stay to visit some friends and family, my time in Japan ended on the 8th day early in the morning with a healthy and delicious Japanese hotel breakfast: Once I’ve said goodbye to everyone, I headed through the Nissan Gallery passage one last time in direction Yokohama Shin station, where they were showing a video of the Z development (and other cars), which was quite fitting for the end. I took the Airport Limousine express bus to the Airport, which gave be a hazy but nice view of the Yokohama Bay Bridge: I made sure to grab some nice magazines before…

  • EVENT: S30.world Japan tour pt. 5 – Photoshoot / Nissan Zama Warehouse

Day 7: Photoshoot / Nissan Zama warehouse / S30.world development meeting Welcome to another part of our incredible S30.world Japan expedition. After another great breakfast in the Hotel, the whole crew took the subway, train and bus to a far-away part of Tokyo. The reason? We wanted to recreate this iconic Press photo print that Kats had brought to the Car show. After a bit of googling, some of the team were actually able to figure out the original location which this photo was taken at: So the idea was to take similar photos in front of the building. But, we didn’t really have a photo shooting permission, and the…
