PLACE: The long-gone swiss 240Z collection
Before we start: Neither the place nor the cars nor the parts shown in the following pictures exist anymore. Please do not ask.
Every car enthusiast dreams about finding a barn full of its favorite cars. So when I heard about a Swiss Z-Car “hoarder”, naturally, my interest was aroused. I started to ask around, and over the years I heard many rumors and stories, but never actually saw it. Until recently, a friendly guy shared some details and photos from that former collection. Many things are still unclear, but just look at it:
The collection of various Z’s was located in Amriswil. Some say the owner bought many Z and ZX cars at times when they were cheap. Some say he never actually paid for them. Generally, the story sums up as a bit of a tragic life story of a typical “hoarder”.
As you can see, the cars are not only Z and ZX’s but also other cars. Most cars are in questionable state with parts missing. The guy who gave me the photos told me that the place was close to the train station and not really well secured, so kids would get in to play around and break things for fun, and others would get there to steal parts for their projects.
It seems that most of the cars were originally Swiss sold Z’s and ZX’s in all kind of shapes and states.
Some probably had accident damages eben before they ended up in this collection.
It is said that the owner got into some troubles and separated from his family, which then eventually took the cars and got rid of them many years ago. Most of them got sold for scrapping, during a time when they were not worth much and nobody was buying these cars.
I would really like to know more details. If you know anything, please let me know.
This seems like a typical Swiss 240Z from the 80ies era. I think I’ve even seen some photos of this exact car from a meeting years ago
Most of them had damaged rear windows.
Even though they all look terrible, and it’s sad to see the cars stored like this, I would love to find a place like this one day and bring back the cars to former glory. I think every car-nerd would…
It makes me sad to think about how much worth these cars would be these days if the previous owner had kept them at least stored safely and in a certain shape. But I guess it’s the opposite that makes these stories so interesting. After all, that’s life.
